Ordered a week ago, hoping to play this week after getting my belt and CR Speed Holster, but the first seller messed up their inventory and didn’t have any in-stock. Luckily they were cool with refunding my money. Fast forward to last night, another store had a “Father’s Day Sale” and this particular one was even cheaper than when I first ordered.
It’s an KJ Works KP-05, which is a replica of the Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa 5.1, which in turn is a replica of the STI 2011. This particular one was also branded STI Tactical X in the past. Shoots 6mm and does both green gas and CO2 with the right mags. Should also fit a plethora of Marui Hi-Capa parts, and I’m already looking at a Springfield Armoury marked slide, lol.
This is what it looks like installed
Yes, it’s an airsoft, I know a lot of you guys are used to shooting real brass. I didn’t want to go through the trouble of getting an RPAL, at least not for now. And real ammo is burning money vs BBs, I get 5000 rounds for like $10. I’m cheap, lol.
Found a place nearby which does IPSC Action Air, so will be using this for it. Hopefully it gets here soon and I can do my “Black Badge” course.

I think airsoft is definitely fun in its own way. Despite being American and owning a few real firearms, I still greatly enjoyed wandering through some airsoft shops in Japan; the level of detail on a lot of their stuff is insane.

Tell me about it. A fun day at the range is expensive, especially in here in California

Yeah, I saw some of the guys at the range yesterday and all the raceguns they have (they had a weekly match going on) , they look crazy.

It sure is. I was playing a small match at a bachelor’s party, and always wanted to play since I was in high school.

Along the same lines, I remember seeing some stuff a while back about certain countries in Southeast Asia having heavily-modified paintball guns that shoot large BBs from detachable box magazines for target competition. It’s kinda cool to see the alternative solutions that people come up with when they are prohibited from owning “the real thing.”

Here’s an interesting tidbit: in Canada, airsoft is actually considered a firearm. Replica firearms and guns with projectiles that aren’t powerful enough are actually illegal import and own unless you have a movie prop license.
Basically the gun has to be at least 366fps with a .20g BB, since the law states it needs to “do bodily harm”, but under 5.7J so it becomes an “uncontrolled firearm” . Although the muzzle velocity number is arbitrary, I see a lot of guns sold here tested on YouTube lower.
This was the reason I had to buy a new gun, I actually have a HK Mark 23 airsoft back home, but can’t import it since there’s no documentation from the manufacturer stating it meets the muzzle energy requirement.

Well let’s not hope I don’t start modding and building custom guns, lol.
The really nice ones can cost more than the real counterpart.

That’s... kinda ridiculous.

Our gun laws are a joke. Even getting a license is a joke of a process. It is only there to give an illusion of fun control.
